It can be used diagnostically or as a therapeutic treatment.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What Conditions Can It Treat?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A stellate ganglion block may be used for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Herpes zoster (shingles), especially early treatment to prevent long-term complications<\/li>\n<li>Chronic pain of the upper limb and face<\/li>\n<li>Circulatory disorders of the upper limb (e.g., Buerger\u2019s disease, atherosclerosis, Raynaud\u2019s syndrome, hyperhidrosis of the palms)<\/li>\n<li>Chronic upper limb pain conditions (e.g., Complex Regional Pain Syndrome \u2013 CRPS)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/fajdalomklinika.hu\/en\/conditions-we-treat\/covid-anosmia\/\">Post-COVID loss of smell<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>When Is It Not Recommended?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Local infection<\/li>\n<li>With caution in severe lung disease or diaphragm paralysis<\/li>\n<li>Certain severe anatomical abnormalities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>What Happens During the Procedure?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. After 15\u201330 minutes of observation, the patient can go home with an escort. It is performed under ultrasound guidance.<\/p>\n<p>General anesthesia is not required, as the procedure uses a very fine needle, smaller than those used for IV cannulation.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What Happens After the Procedure?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>No post-procedure pain medication is usually needed, and patients can return to normal activities.<\/p>\n<p>Temporarily (for about 1\u20132 hours), one pupil may become smaller or larger than the other, so driving is not recommended during this time.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How Many Treatments Are Needed?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Depending on the condition, it may be used as a single diagnostic injection or repeated multiple times for therapeutic purposes.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How Long Does It Take?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The patient lies on their side, the neck is examined with ultrasound for 2\u20133 minutes, and the injection itself takes about 20\u201330 seconds.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Possible Side Effects<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A successful block may cause temporary narrowing of the pupil on the same side, blurred vision, warmth in the limb, and facial flushing. These effects are temporary and resolve within a few hours.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Complications<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Rare: local tenderness<\/li>\n<li>Very Rare: headache, bruising\/hematoma, infection, pneumothorax, allergic reaction, new or worsening pain<\/li>\n<li>Extremely Rare: seizure, nerve injury<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What Is a Stellate Ganglion Block?
